Veg Tan Leather Care
Veg Tan leather is a truly beautiful and unique material. If treated well, it should last many lifetimes. But it needs just a little love. To make sure it’s at its best, we recommend taking the time to protect and condition your bag, just as you would service a car. It’s important to note that every Byrd Studio item is sent out after being conditioned by hand. But if you would like more care, read on.
Your enemies
- Water. Veg Tan can take on water marks if you get caught in the rain or spill liquid on it. We love the way this slowly adds to the patina and the worn leather look over time as it just adds to the beautiful story of your bag. But you can protect and condition your bag with a leather conditioner or a water and spray protector, to slowly build up a water protection, and buff away marks.
- Dry conditions. If left to its own devices, Veg Tan leather can dry out and will eventually crack if not conditioned. You will need to use a leather conditioner every 6 months or so to keep it nourished and conditioned.
- The sun. Leather is best kept out of the sun. Of course you can enjoy wearing your bag and frolicking in the sun daily, but when not in use we recommend keeping it in the provided dust bag for protection.
Your bag will love
1. A treatment every 6 months or so. Take a soft, clean rag or chux. In a circular motion, gently rub a small amount of leather care product into the leather, making sure you go over any scuffs or dry areas. Keep rubbing in until the product is absorbed.
2. A little rest in it's dust bag when not used for a prolonged period of time.
