I have a deep love affair with leathercraft. The feel. The smell. The possibilities. 

It began in 2003 with shoes and moved to bags when I started The Butcher Byrd in 2013. Imagining, designing, developing, then crafting and bringing them to reality.

Up until 2024 I was the sole maker of The Butcher Byrd bags, juggling the demands of business with a house full of beautiful, loud and crazy little kids. Until the juggle became impossible and I realised one person couldn’t deliver everything that The Butcher Byrd was asking.

After some serious soul searching, I knew I would need to share the load if I wanted The Butcher Byrd to continue. I would need to share my love of making with other people who love it as much as I do. 

After searching the world for makers aligned to my own values I eventually found Ellavana in Uttar Pradesh, India. I wasn’t just looking for the end product, I was looking for the way they ran the business. The opportunities for women. Their voice at the making table. And of course, the quality had to be as good as or better than I expected of myself.

I am absolutely delighted to be working with their team to bring you Byrd Studio.
